Kaloya Park
This is a go to for picnics, paddle boarding and watching the sunset. There is a good sized playground hiking trails around the point and larger grassy areas. We bring our kayaks and paddle boards here often. Watch out for bugs, also the beach on the right as you look to the north is NOT a good point to launch kayaks or take a dip, it is very muddy and silty on this side.
Willow Beach
The isthmus in Oyama has many beach spots, we usually start at the Willow opposite the Oyama Hall, there is a rope swing, floating dock and shallow waters at the edge. Walk further down the rail trail to the left and there are many smaller and even private beaches you can find your spot for your beach day. There are not any stores close by so bring what you need to the beach or take a short drive to OKF grill and the Oyama General store.
Explore
Lake Country is a wealth of places to explore, below are our go to places in Oyama & Lake Country as well as some hidden gems a little further afield. You can click each map for directions. You can also check out visitlakecountry.ca for visitor information.
Oyama Lookout
This is a true beauty and a place to watch the sunset (or rise), you head up Oyama Lake Road, this road is bumpy and is best explored in an SUV or truck. You can see the whole isthmus, with seeping views of Kalamalka Lake and Wood Lake.
Rail Trail & Ribbleworth Falls
You can access the rail trail from the suite either by a 20 minute walk or 10 min cycle ride. Leave the house Turing left on Oyama Road, take the first right on Trewhitt Road West and follow all the way down the hill, you will meet the rail trail. If you turn right you can follow the rail trail for about 20 minutes and reach Ribbleworth Falls. There is a rest area and benches for a picnic or just to sit and take in the view. You can complete the loop by continuing along the rail trail to Cliffe Road. Ascend here and you will meet Broadwater Road, turn right and follow back to Oyama Road. you can either turn right back on to Oyama road to complete the loop or walk a larger loop around Trewhitt Road. Visit the WALC website for more details.
Pebble Beach
Shhh don’t tell anyone. This gem is getting better known but is still quiet on weekdays and there are literally miles of beach so you should find a quiet spot. Pebble beach located in Okanagan Centre has two floating docks and also a pier. As the name suggests it has lots of pebbles, so water shoes are advised. Okanagan lake does tend to drop off quite quickly and is usually cooler than the other lakes as it is so deep. A late evening swim is a regular for us here.
Kopje Park
This is truly a hidden gem, in the Carrs Landing area of Lake Country this regional park has a heritage house, large flat grassy areas, a beach and playground. It does sometimes host summer events and is a cool stop on a wine tour (on way to 50th Parallel).
Kettle Valley Trails
Biking the Kettle Valley Railway (KVR), an old, abandoned railway bed that has a new lease on life, is one of the top things to do the Okanagan Valley in spring, summer and fall. Located in southern British Columbia, it was once named by Outside Magazine as one of the “top 10 trails to cycle.”
